On the road to … somewhere
For several years, the second week of August was "Golf Week" for Don and Pete. This was our annual seven-day trek somewhere to play golf and whack courses off of our list. The annual "Golf Weeks" included: • 2007 — Central Oregon Coast • 2008 — Grants Pass/Medford • 2009 — "Near" Eastern Oregon • 2010 — Central Oregon • 2011 — Greater Eugene/Springfield • 2012 — South Oregon Coast • 2013 — Central Oregon II • 2014 — Klamath Falls (and beyond) • 2015 — "Far" Eastern Oregon For the first several years, Golf Week was just Don and Pete. But Golf Week took a new turn in 2012 with the addition of friends Dave Cadd and Mitch Nosack, high school classmates of Don's. Golf Week 2015 featured a Far Eastern Oregon roadie (starting in Baker City, over to Ontario, swing down to Burns, etc.). Dave and Mitch opted out of Golf Week 2015, so it was back to the good ol' days for Don and Pete — a lot of driving and cheap motels. For those nine years, Golf Week was a great opportunity to concentrate on courses within a geographic area. Sadly, as we wind down our Quest, our "traditional" Golf Weeks are no longer feasible. The courses we have left to play are almost entirely private courses scattered along the I-5 corridor, so we have to secure — by hook or by crook — invitations to each one individually. Incidentally, there was a Golf Week 2016, but it took place in Central Washington, with home base being a free condo near Leavenworth supplied by a friend of Don's.
